With an air of controversy surrounding the event, the famous words ‘the show must go on’ seemed to be the sentiment of the David Jones team.
Whilst a sexual harassment case against CEO Mark McInnes looms, and a notable absent Miranda Kerr laps up her honeymoon, DJ’s called in some much needed re-enforcements for the spring/summer season launch. This year’s artillery was tanned and toned and came in the form of Nicole Trunfio, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Katherine McNeil and Alexandra Agoston. These supermodel heavy-weights rocked and proved why Australia is making waves in the international model circuit.
Some notable trends were paraded down the French salon themed catwalk in the Elizabeth Street David Jones store, Sydney. Apparently nude is the new way to wear clothes. However, this nude is embellished, with simple silhouettes given edge through clever embroidery, intricate sequins and ruffled edges as worn by the awesome foursome, plus girl-of-the-moment Samantha Harris, for the finale look.
Zimmerman took a back seat this year in swimwear and let some new talent shine through. Megan Gale’s collection and the Jets range were all about bold patterns with girly finishes. Zimmerman’s focus was clearly in their apparel this year, and their monochrome, geometric prints on a bellowing flare trouser or long shift dress made for a striking statement.
The one-shouldered trend was further cemented as a season must as Collette Dinnigan, Camilla and Marc and Thurley all presented their adaptation in diverse colour palettes and textures. A trend unlikely to fade proved to be the embellished tribal look which was carried through by sass & bide and a slightly more parred back interpretation from Camilla and Marc. A by-product of the tribal trend was seen from kaftan queen Camilla Franks whose leopard and zebra print creations had us dreaming of summer parties once again.
With over 180 pieces from over 25 local designers including Alex Perry, Lisa Ho, Fleur Wood and Collette Dinnigan, David Jones successfully braved the storm.
