Isabel Marant

French born and bred, Isabel Marant is a designer whose name epitomises high street chic. For a label as luxe and chic as she, Marant manages to simultaneously remain so cool and edgy.

Her aesthetic has repeatedly been labeled as high-end Parisan street. Marant’s collections are seamlessly taken from the international catwalks, to the backs of fashion worshippers. Initially a jewellery designer, part of Marant’s perfection comes from an inherent understanding of the combining classic shapes with an indie sensibility.

Simply mention the name, and a image of a cool, nonchalant Parisian teen transpires. This female is fearless, make-up free and ironically, doesn’t care for fashion trends. Isabel’s relaxed, haute bohemian style extends beyond the French, and credits Sienna Miller and Cameron Diaz as avid followers of the label.

My favourite things? Think baroque bomber jackets, the now infamous fur gilet with splashes of colour, slouched military boots, and most recently, three quarter pants with adorned in silver spangles.

Tali Shuvalov - Emerging Talent

As often as a new car emerges from the production line, as does a young hopeful fashion designer. Bright eyed and allured to the chiffon and Chanel of the glamorous world of fashion, rarely does the caterpillar take flight.

Except for a few...

Tali Shuvalov’s first collection from her final year at the University of Technology (Sydney) has already received local and international media attention and has fashion pedigrees’ taking note.

The collection is a celebration of the modern, powerful female. Geometric patterns and linear outlines are the basis for the structured, form fitting pieces. The notable pieces in the collection are the carefully tailored jackets, often with a subtle shoulder, with bold black lines separating the charcoal, gold, grey and white colour pallet. The deep electric blue which so often appears in some of the jackets is a welcome addition in the garments muted tones.

Texturally, the range is alluring. Velvets comfortably sit alongside hand knit woollens and nylons. In its various forms, the textiles create a substance and softness to the sharp pieces.

Shuvalov’s collection is for the urban warrior. This female is pioneering and self-assured. She has produced a range with a mature design attitude which can be likened to the young Australian talent to emerge from this year’s RAFW, Christopher Eber.

A name sure to become part of the Australian fashion DNA, this is a Generation Next designer who has most certainly found their wings.
